nut knotting

recently there has been an amazing nut knotting bracelet DIY floating around the interwebs and the second i came across the tutorial i KNEW i had to partake in the madness (so lucky for all of you living under a rock, you will learn how to HERE!).  upon a trip to ACE i found some interesting types of nuts -- like these square little guys -- and i was totally inspired!! check it out!!

you will need:
16-20 small nuts (mixing silver and brass would probably be pretty cool...)
3 strands of twine (i tried to find some blue or orange but had no luck...)
20 minutes of free time (preferably while watching jersey shore)

how to:
tie twine together leaving a few inches from the top
braid (1-3")
add a nut to the far left string of the braid before crossing the strand over the middle (make sure the nut stays to the side of the braid)
cross the left strand over the middle
add a nut to the far right string of the braid before crossing over the middle (still making sure it is on the outside of the braid)
continueeee, keeping your fingers at the base of the braid when threading each nut so it doesn't fall apart
**its easier to tape the ends of the string so they do not unravel**
when done adding nuts, braid (1-3" more)
tie off!!

tada!! for another set of instructions (i am so ocd i like to read like 10 different ones before i start it myself...) go here - also i am SO trying gradually increasing the nut size...

natalie portman in rodarte - marisa tomei in charles james circa 1950 - amy adams in l'wren scott

i am totally into these deep purple-y jewel tones that go so wonderfully well with these stars' porcelain skin.  loving the baby-bump disguise and the vintage which is so IN right now...not super impressed by amy's jewelry/hair choice but take those away and the dress is fab!

mila kunis in elie saab - hilary swank in gucci - cate blanchet in givenchy

liking this lilac color that i generally think looks's all about the hair and make-up for these to work. i give mila one of the best dressed of the night - totally loving the difference from other recent red carpets. hilary looks stunning as always and this picture totally doesn't show how gorgeous cate looked.

anne hathaway in archival valentino - scarlett johansson in dolce & gabbana - sandra bullock in l'wren scott

newly devoted to RED dresses. must get one to wear asap. anne and sandra looked absolutely regal and scarlett (i know, not really red RED...) looked dashing in the purpley/red hue she wore! love love!!

mandy moore in monique l'huilier - florence welch in valentino - michelle williams in chanel

by far my favorite red carpet color scheme...maybe because i am loving the naked look these days but mostly because this color flatters EVERYONE. totally will be investing in some nude pieces for the spring.  best goes to mandy (surprising because i can still picture her "candy" music vid...) but i am also loving the way florence went...

enjoy! xx

sundaze nine

super annoyed with my latest hair color. hoping that channeling the ideal will somehow change the future...on another note...HAPPY OSCAR SUNDAY (and red carpet night...)!! trend reporting to follow...xx

proenza schouler fall 2011

totally cool mix of modern shapes and burn-out velvet {SWOONING} needing bright colors and a uber long pony like two hours ago! sorry for the poor quality of these pictures {really, you must check out the RUNWAY live feed here or there} - i took them via screen shot and they came out quite terribly - i could not stand to wait for the pretty ones on because i NEED-INSTANT-GRATIFICATION.

more awesomeness after the JUMP!

elvis laskin

last week i was privileged enough to meet melissa laskin of elvis laskin and let me tell you -- she is absolutely AMAZING. she is an incredible artist turned stylist turned designer and i am in total awe of every single one of her pieces!! each of her one-of-a-kind designs begins as a painting and is then scanned and imprinted with heat onto the fabric of her choosing.  i was in such awe of this dress i nearly a million times...if someone isn't wearing this masterpiece on some red carpet i am going to be devastated...

this is the masterpiece dress. the incredible yellow doesn't show in the photo so much but IRL it is literally breathtaking...

one of melissa's paintings transferred to a luxe cotton tee with matte sequined sleeves (um...i need matte sequins in my LIFE...)

these are more paintings by the wonderful melissa laskin - the abstract art on these canvases is embodied by the garments she creates and i have truly not seen anything more inspiring in a very long time...

hope you enjoyed this designer spotlight!! check out more melissa laskin here and PS -- she uses carrie dee as her primary model...ahhhhhh. ANTM....xx
